Intellectual Property

A range of AzCI partners present on identifying, protecting and defending your intellectual property

Brief Comments on IP and US Government Contracts, J. Horn

Introduction

Intellectual property (IP) plays a critical role in the development and planning for any new technology venture. Intellectual property includes tangible and intangible ideas, information, and things that are created or derived and that have a commercial value. IP rights are bestowed on the owners of ideas, inventions, and creative expression, and have the status of property, and give the owner the right to exclude others from access to, or use of, their property. IP can be used as an offensive tool to prevent others; as a defensive tool if someone tries to prevent you from doing something; or as a corporate asset that could be leveraged.

The purpose of this video session is to help participants navigate through four key areas: patents, trade secrets, trademark, and copyrights; it also addresses the importance of avoiding infringement of others' IP. In addition, the presentation includes a few tips and resources for conducting a patent or trademark search. The full video session has been generously provided by Snell & Wilmer, a full-service business law firm with more than 400 attorneys practicing in nine locations throughout the western United States and Mexico.
